Motorcyclist Dies in Allen Parish Crash

REEVES, LAA man from Reeves died this afternoon after losing control of his motorcycle in Allen Parish.

On April 2, 2015, at approximately 12:41 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on Bel Fire Tower Road about 2 1/3 miles north of U.S. Highway 190 near the town of Reeves in Allen Parish. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1996 Honda Gold Wing 3-wheeled motorcycle operated by 74-year-old Dempsey C. Rion, Jr. of Reeves was traveling north on Bel Fire Tower Road when Rion failed to negotiate a curve. The motorcycle entered a ditch, overturned, and struck a fence.

Rion, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Allen Parish Coroner’s Office.

A routine toxicology sample was obtained from Rion and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, distracted and inattentive driving continue to be leading causes of crashes in our state. Information on distracted driving may be found online at www.distrtaction.gov.

Motorcycle awareness license plates are available through the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles. Please visit their website at www.expresslane.org for more information. Funds generated from the purchase of the plates will be used by the Motorcycle Awareness Campaign to increase awareness and promote/support training and education efforts for motorcyclists.

Year-to-date, Troop D has investigated 9 fatal crashes resulting in 9 deaths.
