Pursuit on I-10 Leads to Arrest of Wanted Florida Man

LAKE CHARLES – Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop D arrested a Florida man this afternoon after he led officers from different agencies on a pursuit lasting 13 minutes.

This afternoon, at 4:22 p.m., A Trooper assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop D observed a Chevrolet Camaro speeding on I-10 Westbound east of Lake Charles. The Trooper then attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver, later identified as 20-year-old Alexander Lee Vaughn of Tallahassee, Florida, refused to stop and increased his speed. Vaughn continued west on I-10 across the Calcasieu River Bridge. Vaughn exited onto I-210 Eastbound and sideswiped another vehicle on the single-lane exit ramp causing minor damage to both vehicles.

Vaughn was stopped on I-210 just north of Legion Street in Lake Charles where he was placed under arrest.

A computer check revealed fifteen active arrest warrants out of Florida for Vaughn for various offenses including burglary while armed with a firearm, grand theft, theft of a firearm, burglary, criminal mischief, failure to appear, and resisting arrest.

Vaughn was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center and is awaiting extradition to Florida. Additionally, Troopers charged Vaughn with speeding, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, aggravated flight from an officer, hit and run driving, improper lane usage, passing on the shoulder, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, failure to signal lane change, failure to keep right upon a multi-lane highway, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, and DWI.

No injuries were reported. The Lake Charles City Police and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office assisted with the pursuit.
