Speeding Motorcyclist Dies in Allen Parish Crash

OBERLIN, LA – A Dry Creek man died last night after he lost control of the motorcycle he was operating.

On July 18, 2015, shortly after 9:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle motorcycle crash on Louisiana Highway 26 west of Oberlin in Allen Parish. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle operated by 26-year-old Tony A. Seal of Dry Creek was traveling west on LA 26 at a high rate of speed when Seal encountered a pickup truck stopped in the roadway preparing to make a legal turn. Seal applied the brakes and the motorcycle skidded 343 feet before leaving the roadway then skidded another 175 feet in the grass before ejecting Seal who slid another 40 feet before stopping.

Seal was transported to Oakdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Seal was wearing an approved helmet but did not have a motorcycle endorsement on his driver’s license.

Excessive speed and alcohol consumption are suspected factors in this crash. A toxicology sample was obtained for analysis and the crash remains under investigation.

Speeding reduces a driver’s ability to steer safely around curves or objects in the roadway, extends the distance necessary to stop a vehicle, and increases the distance a vehicle travels while the driver reacts to a dangerous situation. Troopers encourage motorists to observe the speed limit and to drive in a safe and prudent manner.

Have a plan involving a sober driver before going anywhere alcoholic beverages will be consumed. Motorists should never operate a vehicle while impaired or get in a vehicle with an impaired driver. To report impaired drivers, motorists are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) from their cellular phone to reach the nearest State Police troop location or may dial 911 to contact the nearest law enforcement agency.

This is the second motorcyclist to die in Allen Parish this year. Both of these deaths were the result of single-vehicle crashes.

Troop D has investigated 13 fatal crashes resulting in 14 deaths so far this year.
