TROOP D NEWS RELEASE May 1, 2015 Pursuit on I-10 Leads to Arrest of Texas Man LAKE CHARLES, LA – Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop D and Troop I arrested a Texas man this morning after he led Troopers on a pursuit lasting 27 minutes. This morning, at 7:18 a.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop D observed a vehicle that was reported stolen on Interstate Highway 10 east of Lake Charles. Troopers then stopped the vehicle. The driver, later identified as 32-year-old Alfred C. Wells, Jr. of Crocket, Texas, initially stopped then took off at a high rate of speed. Wells was subsequently observed throwing items from the 2003 Cadillac he was driving. Troopers, with assistance from other law enforcement agencies, stopped the vehicle on I-10 Eastbound near Louisiana Highway 91 east of the community of Egan. Wells was booked and released from the Acadia Parish Jail Wells was then transferred to the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center where he was booked for possession of stolen things, possession of a controlled dangerous substance (crack cocaine), reckless operation of a motor vehicle, aggravated flight from an officer, speeding, driving with a suspended driver’s license, and intentional littering. No injuries were reported and no vehicles were damaged. Several other law enforcement agencies assisted with the pursuit including the Iowa Police Department, Welsh Police Department, Jennings Police Department, Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
