TROOP D NEWS RELEASE April 23, 2015 Houston Man with 11 Kilos of Cocaine Arrested by Troopers CALCASIEU PARISH – A Houston man was arrested earlier this week after Troopers found cocaine in the vehicle he was driving on Interstate 10 near the Texas state line. On Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at 4:18 a.m., a Trooper assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop D stopped a 2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo on Interstate Highway 10, 3 miles east of the Texas state line for a traffic violation. A computer check of the driver, 35-year-old Alphonse Carl Trahan, Jr. of Houston, Texas, revealed that a warrant existed for his arrest out of Harris County, TX for felony criminal mischief. Troopers requested and received permission to search the vehicle Trahan was driving. During a search of the vehicle, 11 kilograms (approximately 24 pounds) of cocaine with an estimated value of $275,000 was located in hidden compartments. Trahan was charged with failure to keep right upon a multi-lane highway and possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute. Trahan was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center for the aforementioned charges as well as the warrant out of Harris County. Bond was set at $30,100. If convicted, Trahan faces up to 30 years in prison and up to a $50,000 fine. Troopers work to protect the citizens of our state from the illicit manufacturing, distribution, selling, and use of drugs by enforcing federal and state laws governing such activities.
