TROOP D NEWS RELEASE May 16, 2016 Unrestrained Driver Dies in Crash near Lake Charles CALCASIEU PARISH, LA – A single-vehicle crash claimed the life of an unrestrained Lake Charles man this morning. On May 16, 2016, shortly after 4:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 3020 (Opelousas Street) near Balboa Street east of Lake Charles. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2007 Cadillac driven by 33-year-old Quincy Darnell Trail of Lake Charles was traveling east on LA 3020 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled into a ditch, struck a culvert, then overturned several times. Trail, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office. A toxicology sample was obtained from Trail for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Wearing a seat belt is the simplest and most effective step motorists can take to reduce the risk of injury in the event of a crash. The three seconds it takes to put one on can be the difference between life and death. Louisiana state law requires motor vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in all seating positions, day and night. Motorists are encouraged to make the smart choice and wear a seat belt on every trip. Troop D has investigated 16 fatal crashes resulting in 20 deaths so far this year. Contact Information: | |||
