TROOP D NEWS RELEASE May 21, 2016 Passenger Succumbs to Injuries in Jefferson Davis Parish Crash Jennings, LA—A female passenger lost her life this morning after being ejected during a motorcycle crash. Shortly before 11:00 a.m. on May 21, 2016, Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on Interstate 10. The initial investigation by State Police revealed 54-year-old Philip Benoit, of Jennings, LA, was driving a 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle east on I-10. For unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the road to the right and struck a fence. Both the driver and passenger of the motorcycle were ejected. Despite correctly wearing an approved Department of Transportation helmet, both sustained injuries in the crash and were transported to local hospitals. The passenger on the motorcycle, 51-year-old Donnie Benoit, of Jennings, LA, was later pronounced dead. A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
