TROOP D NEWS RELEASE May 14, 2017 Rollover Crash on I-10 Leads to Death of Lake Charles Man JEFFERSON DAVIS PARISH — A Lake Charles man has died this evening as the result of a rollover crash. On May 14, 2017, shortly after 5:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash on I-10 about 3 miles east of Iowa in Jefferson Davis Parish. The preliminary investigation revealed a 1997 Ford pickup truck was traveling east on I-10 when one of the tires failed. The driver, 59-year-old Randal Karl Stewart of Lake Charles, overcorrected and ran off of the highway causing the pickup to roll over onto its roof and come to rest on the south service road. Despite wearing a seat belt, Stewart was critically injured and transported to Jennings American Legion Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A routine toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Troop D has investigated 9 fatal crashes resulting in 12 deaths in 2017.
