TROOP D NEWS RELEASE August 21, 2017 Westlake Man Arrested Third Time for Child Pornography WESTLAKE — A Westlake man has been arrested a third time for possession of child pornography. Earlier this month, the Special Victims Unit of the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations initiated an investigation into the possession and sharing of child pornography in Calcasieu Parish. The investigation led Troopers to obtain a search warrant for a residence in Westlake, Louisiana. On August 18, 2017, Troopers served the search warrant at the residence and determined 35-year-old Joshua J. Cupit of Westlake downloaded and shared videos of children being sexually abused. Cupit is currently a registered sex offender for prior convictions for child pornography-related offenses in two other states. After further investigation, investigators learned Cupit also possessed child sexual abuse images and videos at another residence in Beauregard Parish. Cupit was charged with pornography involving juveniles and unlawful presence of a sex offender in Calcasieu Parish. He was also charged in Beauregard Parish with pornography involving juveniles (320 counts). Cupit was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. Bond was set at $250,000 in Calcasieu Parish and $450,000 in Beauregard Parish. The investigation is continuing.
