TROOP D NEWS RELEASE August 30, 2017 Unrestrained Jennings Man Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash JEFFERSON DAVIS PARISH — A Jennings man is dead following a single-vehicle crash about two miles south of Jennings. On August 30, 2017, at about 3:30 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 26 south of Louisiana Highway 1126 in Jefferson Davis Parish. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2013 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling north on LA 26 when, for unknown reasons, the truck traveled off the road and struck a ditch. The vehicle came to rest in an open field. The driver, 27-year-old Guy Ryan Lopez of Jennings, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. A toxicology sample was obtained from Lopez and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. The majority of people who die in vehicle crashes are not wearing a seat belt. Unfortunately, some people don’t think it can happen to them until it’s too late. Wearing a seat belt is the single most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves in the event of a crash. Motorists are encouraged to make the smart choice and always wear a seat belt. Troop D has investigated 15 fatal crashes resulting in 20 deaths in 2017. Contact Information: | |||
