TROOP D NEWS RELEASE January 2, 2018 Motorcycle Crash in Calcasieu Parish Kills Donner Man CARLYSS — A man from Donner is dead after crashing the motorcycle he was on in Calcasieu Parish last night. On January 1, 2018, shortly before 9:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on Louisiana Highway 27 near Sam Vincent Road just south of the community of Carlyss. The initial investigation revealed a 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle operated by 48-year-old Daniel S. Shavor of Donner (Terrebonne Parish) was traveling south on LA 27 when he failed to negotiate a curve and lost control of the motorcycle causing him to be ejected. Shavor, who was the sole occupant of the motorcycle, sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office. At this time it is unknown if he was wearing a helmet. A toxicology sample was obtained from Shavor and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. The Louisiana State Police offers basic, intermediate, and advanced motorcycle safety training courses.
