Pursuit Leads to Arrest of Lake Charles Man on Numerous Charges

LAKE CHARLES — A Lake Charles man was arrested for DWI, drug charges, and other charges following a pursuit this evening.

On October 16, 2017, shortly after 5:00 p.m., a Trooper assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop D observed a BMW passing vehicles on the shoulder of I-10 Westbound near US Highway 171 in Calcasieu Parish. The Trooper activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The driver, 26-year-old Blake Aaron Mouton Smith of Lake Charles, refused to stop and exited the interstate. Smith then traveled on several city streets as he attempted to elude Troopers before entering I-210.

Troopers successfully deployed a tire deflation device on I-210 causing all four tires to gradually deflate. Smith exited onto Enterprise Boulevard then fled from the vehicle. He was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.

Smith was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated (second offense), possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of pharmaceuticals without a prescription, aggravated flight from an officer, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container, passing on the shoulder, driving under suspension, and expired vehicle license plate. Smith was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center.

The Lake Charles Police Department assisted with the pursuit.
