| TROOP A NEWS RELEASE September 16, 2016 17 Year Old Dies in Single Vehicle Crash in Livingston Parish Maurepas, LA – Shortly after 5:00 pm on September 16, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle crash on LA 22 east of LA 1039 in Livingston Parish. The crash took the life of 17 year old Megan Threeton of Springfield, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Threeton was traveling westbound on LA 22 in a 2005 Ford Expedition. For unknown reasons, Threeton failed to negotiate a right hand curve and ran off the left side of the roadway. Threeton’s vehicle then came to a stop after striking a tree on the driver’s side. Threeton was properly restrained at the time of the crash but sustained severe injuries. She was transported to North Oaks Hospital for treatment. She later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased by doctors. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash but a toxicology sample will be taken from Threeton for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
