TROOP D NEWS RELEASE September 23, 2016 Unrestrained Texas Man Dies in Rollover Crash CALCASIEU PARISH, LA – A Texas man is dead following a crash this morning about 3 miles south of Starks. On September 23, 2016, shortly after 10:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 109 near Jim Johnson Road in western Calcasieu Parish. The preliminary investigation revealed a 1992 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by 24-year-old Jamie P. Holden of Deweyville, TX was traveling north on LA 109 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle began to travel off the roadway. Holden lost control causing the pickup to roll over several times. Holden was ejected from the vehicle and was pinned underneath. Holden, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office. There were no other occupants in the vehicle. A toxicology sample was obtained from Holden for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Wearing a seat belt is the simplest and most effective step motorists can take to reduce the risk of injury in the event of a crash. Louisiana state law requires motor vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in all seating positions, day and night. Motorists are encouraged to make the smart choice and wear a seat belt on every trip. Troop D has investigated 25 fatal crashes resulting in 29 deaths this year. Contact Information: | |||
