Lake Charles Man Arrested on Multiple Charges Following Pursuit

LEBLEU SETTLEMENT, LA – Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop D arrested a Lake Charles man this afternoon following a pursuit this morning.

On October 12, 2016, shortly before 8:00 a.m., a State Trooper attempted to stop a motorcyclist for a traffic violation on Louisiana Highway 397 near Louisiana Highway 3059 in Calcasieu Parish. The motorcyclist, later identified as 21-year-old Benjamin Kade Arabie of Lake Charles, accelerated reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour. Arabie then crashed the motorcycle near the intersection of LA 397 and River Road and fled on foot into a wooded area. As he ran, Arabie dropped a .40 caliber handgun.

Troopers established a perimeter with the assistance of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office but did not initially locate Arabie.

This afternoon, a resident spotted Arabie on Charles Breaux Road in the community of LeBleu Settlement and called 911. Troopers and deputies responded to the area and apprehended Arabie without incident. It was determined that the motorcycle and handgun were stolen.

Arabie was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, theft of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated flight from an officer, speeding, no license plate, no motorcycle endorsement, and ignoring a stop sign.

Arabie was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center.
