TROOP D NEWS RELEASE October 26, 2016 Unrestrained Kinder Woman Killed in Crash, High Speed Considered a Factor Allen Parish – Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a woman from Kinder, LA. She was not wearing her seat belt and was partially ejected during the crash. Troopers responded to the crash around 1:00 a.m., which occurred on US Hwy 165 south of Oberlin, LA. The crash involved a 2005 Kia Sorento, driven by Natalie M. LeBleu (W/F 39 yrs). The Kia was northbound on US Hwy 165, at a high rate of speed, when LeBleu lost control and entered the median. The vehicle then traveled across both northbound lanes, exited the roadway, and collided with a large tree. LeBleu was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Seat belts prevent drivers and passengers from being ejected during a crash. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, people not wearing a seat belt are 30 times more likely to be ejected from a vehicle during a crash. Additionally, more than 3 out of 4 people who are ejected during a crash die from their injuries. Speeding reduces a driver’s ability to steer safely around curves or objects in the roadway, extends the distance necessary to stop a vehicle, and increases the distance a vehicle travels while the driver reacts to a situation. Speeding and other aggressive driving behaviors are among the leading causes of highway crashes and fatalities. Troop D has investigated 29 fatal crashes resulting in 33 deaths this year.
