TROOP D NEWS RELEASE November 8, 2016 Fiery Crash on I-10 Kills One Driver JEFFERSON DAVIS PARISH, LA – One person is dead after driving into the rear of an 18-wheeler on I-10 in Jefferson Davis Parish last night. On November 7, 2016, shortly after 11:00 p.m., Troop D responded to a two-vehicle crash on I-10 Eastbound between Welsh and Roanoke. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2008 Volkswagen Touareg SUV was traveling east on I-10 in the right lane of travel when the vehicle crashed into the rear of an 18-wheeler. After impact, the SUV became engulfed in flames. The driver of the Volkswagen was pronounced dead at the scene. The Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office is assisting with the investigation by working to positively identify the driver of the SUV. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured. Interstate 10 Eastbound was closed at the scene for crash investigation and vehicle recovery. The highway was completely reopened just before 6:00 a.m. this morning. Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Troop D has investigated 30 fatal crashes resulting in 34 deaths this year.
