TROOP D NEWS RELEASE August 20, 2016 Fatal Head-On Crash on LA 27 in Calcasieu Parish DEQUINCY, LA – One person is dead and another seriously injured following a head-on crash about 5 ½ miles south of DeQuincy in Calcasieu Parish this morning. On August 20, 2016, shortly after 4:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 27 near Route 66. The preliminary investigation revealed a 1998 Toyota Camry driven by 23-year-old Jasmine Phillips of Dequincy was traveling north on LA 27 entering a curve. For unknown reasons, the Camry crossed the centerline and struck a southbound 2007 Toyota Tundra driven by 23-year-old Cody Massie of Singer head-on. Phillips was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office. Massie was seriously injured and flown to a hospital in Lafayette for treatment. Routine toxicology samples were obtained for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Troop D has investigated 23 fatal crashes resulting in 27 deaths this year.
