TROOP D NEWS RELEASE August 19, 2016 Crash on I-10 Kills Unrestrained Driver IOWA, LA – One person was killed this morning as the result of a crash on I-10 near Iowa involving two drivers from Church Point. On August 19, 2016, shortly after 6:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 Westbound about 4 miles west of the town of Iowa in Calcasieu Parish. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2008 Ford F-250 driven by 28-year-old Ramzie Williams of Church Point was traveling west on I-10 in the right lane. Williams changed lanes causing the rear of the vehicle he was driving to make contact with the front of a 2011 Ford F-350 in the center lane driven by 27-year-old Dion Guillory of Church Point. The contact caused both drivers to lose control. The truck Williams was driving rotated then flipped several times. The truck Guillory was driving came to rest on top of the center concrete divider. Williams was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the truck he was driving. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office. Guillory was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. Routine toxicology samples were obtained from the drivers and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana law requires motorists to wear a seat belt in every seating position, front seat and back seat, day and night. While every crash is not survivable, wearing a seat belt is the most effective thing vehicle occupants can do to minimize the risk of injury in the event of a crash. Motorists are encouraged to always wear their seat belt. | |||
