TROOP D NEWS RELEASE July 16, 2016 Pedestrian Struck and Killed on U.S. 171 in Beauregard Parish RAGLEY, LA – A Ragley resident died last night after she was struck and killed by a vehicle while standing in the lane of travel of U.S. Highway 171. On July 15, 2016, at 9:25 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a crash involving a vehicle that struck a pedestrian on U.S. Highway 171 at Felice Cutoff Road in the community of Ragley in southern Beauregard Parish. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 68-year-old Henry Edwards of DeRidder was traveling north in the right lane of the highway when the vehicle he was driving struck a pedestrian in the road. The pedestrian, 45-year-old Emma Ryder of Ragley, was thrown into the ditch by the impact. Ryder sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Beauregard Parish Coroner’s Office. The driver of the vehicle was not injured. Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Troop D has investigated 19 fatal crashes resulting in 23 deaths this year. | |||
