TROOP D NEWS RELEASE

December 16, 2016
Fraud at Lake Charles Casino Leads to Arrest of Two People

LAKE CHARLES, LA – Two people have been arrested in conjunction with fraudulent activity in Southwest Louisiana.

On December 5, 2016, the Louisiana State Police Gaming Enforcement Division was contacted by Golden Nugget Casino in Lake Charles in reference to a casino patron presenting a fraudulent driver's license to claim a slot machine jackpot of $3,450. The patron, 36-year-old Daniel Sherman King of Hickory, North Carolina, used another person’s identity in an attempt to claim the jackpot. When investigators responded to the casino, King presented a North Carolina driver's license that was not his. King was issued a citation for unlawful use of state-issued identification and released on his signature.

Later that day, investigators discovered the true identity of King and learned that he had multiple warrants from California, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Investigators determined King fraudulently received cash advances from Golden Nugget Casino and L'Auberge Casino Resort in Lake Charles and attempted to obtain a cash advance from Coushatta Casino in Kinder. King also purchased a used vehicle from a dealership in Kinder using someone else’s identification.

On December 7, 2016, 30-year-old Teresa Gouge of Hickory, North Carolina, went to Golden Nugget Casino Lake Charles to claim King's jackpot. Investigators determined Gouge was driving a vehicle that was purchased by King using a fraudulent identity. Gouge was arrested for criminal conspiracy, identity theft, accessory after the fact, fraudulent acquisition of a credit card, and forgery. She was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center the same day. Bond was set at $1,200,000.

Investigators obtained an arrest warrant on King for criminal conspiracy, identity theft, unlawful possession of fraudulent documents, and forgery. King’s bond was set at $1,350,000 as investigators worked with other law enforcement agencies to locate him.

On December 15, 2016, King was located at a casino in Biloxi, Mississippi. The Biloxi Police Department arrested King on the arrest warrant. King is awaiting extradition from Mississippi and other warrants are pending.
