Traffic Stops Lead to Drug Arrests in Calcasieu Parish

CALCASIEU PARISH, LA – Troopers arrested two people for drug possession yesterday after two unrelated traffics stops on Interstate 10 in Calcasieu Parish led to the discovery of illegal drugs including 50 pounds of marijuana in one of the vehicles.

On the morning of February 28, 2017, a Trooper assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop D stopped a 2006 Infiniti G35 on I-10 Eastbound west of Sulphur for a traffic violation. A consensual search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 30 bottles of promethazine with an approximate street value of $3,000. A 16-year-old was among the passengers traveling with Conerly.

The driver, 22-year-old Christopher Conerly of Kokomo, MS, was arrested for possession with intent to distribute Schedule V narcotics (promethazine), contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, improper lane use, and no driver’s license.

Conerly was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center. Bond was set at $155,500.

Later that morning, a Trooper stopped a 2015 Chevrolet Impala for a traffic violation on I-10 Eastbound east of Lake Charles. The driver refused consent to search the vehicle he was driving and a drug detection dog was deployed. Once Louisiana State Police canine Pita indicated drugs were present, Troopers searched the vehicle and discovered approximately 50 pounds of marijuana in the trunk.

The driver, 39-year-old Renier Acosta of Hialeh, FL, was arrested for possession with intent to distribute Schedule I narcotics (marijuana), and following too close.

Acosta was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center. Bond was set at $175,250.
