TROOP D NEWS RELEASE January 28, 2017 Motorist Dies in Rollover Crash on I-10 in Calcasieu Parish CALCASIEU PARISH, LA – One person is dead following a single-vehicle crash on I-10 last night. On January 28, 2017, at about 1:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle crash on I-10 about two miles west of Sulphur. The preliminary investigation revealed a passenger car was traveling west on I-10 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the right side of the highway. The vehicle then struck a culvert and rolled over several times before coming to rest on its side against several trees. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene despite wearing a seat belt. The name of the driver is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. No one else was in the vehicle. A toxicology sample was obtained from the driver for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, distracted driving continues to be a leading factor in motor vehicle crashes.
