The Click It or Ticket Campaign

We would urge everyone to help us celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Click It or Ticket Campaign. Since the campaign began in 2002, seat belt use in the region has soared 16 percentage points from 73.1% before to 89.1% in 2010. However, there are still those that do not buckle up. The campaign starts on May 23rd and ends on June 5th. Everyone can play an important role by making sure everyone is properly restrained in a motor vehicle.

With the recent number of fatal crashes involving unrestrained occupants, troopers will be aggressively enforcing seat belt usage all cross the state. Louisiana State Police Troop C will have increased number of troopers on patrol working to keep motorist safe. This extra allocation of manpower is made possible by overtime funds provided by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.

In 2010, 50% of drivers and/or occupants killed in the Troop C area were not wearing a seat belt. Louisiana State Police Troop C would like to remind everyone to be responsive by making sure everyone is properly restrained. Louisiana law requires ALL OCCUPANTS in the vehicle to be properly restrained regardless of their age or seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, seat belts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury.

Five tips about buckling up: Single most effective thing we can do to protect ourselves in a crash, Air bags are designed to work with seat belts, not replace them, the lap belt and shoulder belt need to be secured across the hips, shoulder and/or chest, which are more able to withstand crash forces than other parts of the body, and make sure the belts are a good fit and/or adjusted correctly. Buckle up Louisiana. Every trip. Every time.

This is a community effort, so we are asking for your help. Captain Darrin Naquin, would like to also remind everyone to be safe and report any unsafe or suspicious activities on the highway by calling *LSP (*577) on your cellular phone or contact your local law enforcement agency.
