Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE April 23, 2011 Fatal Crash In Lafourche Parish Claims The Life Of A Man from Gray, LA Lafourche – On Saturday, April 23, 2011, at approximately 10:48 a.m., Troop C investigated a fatal vehicle crash on LA 316 at the westbound entrance ramp to US 90 in Lafourche Parish. The crash claimed the life of a man from Gray, LA. Henry Breaux (W/M, 28 of Gray, LA) was operating a 2008 Dodge pickup northbound on LA 316. Breaux failed to yield and made a left turn into the path of a 2010 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Sidney Simmons (W/M, 40 of Gray, LA). Breaux was attempting to enter US 90 westbound and Simmons was southbound on LA 316. Simmons attempted to take evasive action, but was unable to avoid the crash. Simmons and his passenger, Lanie Verdin (W/F, 29 of Gray, LA) were ejected from the motorcycle. Breaux was wearing his seat belt and received no injuries. Simmons received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Verdin received critical injuries and was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center. Simmons and Verdin were not wearing approved DOT helmets. Blood will be drawn from Simmons by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Breaux was administered a breath test which indicated no detectable alcohol found. Alcohol and/or drug involvement is not suspected in the crash. Toxicology results are pending from the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Charges are pending in the crash as Troopers continue their investigation. Louisiana state law requires everyone to wear an approved DOT helmet when riding a motorcycle.
