Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: March 10, 2011 A Work Over Rig Blowout in Golden Meadow, LA Lafourche- On Thursday, March 11, 2011, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C was notified by the Lafourche Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness that an oil well on LA 3235 in the corporation of Golden Meadow, LA had blown, and oil was blowing across both lanes of LA 3235. Louisiana State Police Haz Mat and the Department of Environmental Quality were notified and also responded to the incident. With the joint effort of the Golden Meadow Police Department, Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, and State Police Troop C, traffic was re-routed onto LA 1 from LA 3235 at Oak Ridge Drive on the north side and Texas Street on the south side of the incident. The roadway was closed for approximately 2 hours while sand could be put down by the Louisiana Department of Transportation. Elysium Jenning, LLC was the company drilling the well. In the process of cleaning out the sand that was down in the hole, they encountered a gas pocket. Personnel with Elysium Jenning, LLC were able to shut the well down shortly after the oil started blowing from the well. There were no injuries and no homes or businesses had to be evacuated. The Louisiana State Police Haz Mat and Department of Environmental Quality are continuing their investigation into the incident.
