| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date of Crash: April 9, 2011 Fatal Crash Claims The Life Of A Raceland Man Assumption- On Saturday, April 9, 2011, at approximately 5:35 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C investigated a fatal crash on LA 70 at Joe Dugas Road in Assumption Parish. Isaac McKay Jr. (B/M, 52 of Raceland, LA) and his son, Brad McKay (B/M, 25 of Houma, LA) was each operating a 2007 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle eastbound on LA 70 and failed to negotiate an elevated right bank curve. They were traveling abreast and entered the curve at a high rate of speed. As the two cyclists entered the curve they veered across the center line into the westbound lane. A 2002 Dodge pickup driven by Sandy Valois (W/M, 48 of Donaldsonville, LA) was westbound slowing to make a left turn onto Joe Dugas Road. Brad McKay braked, veered to the left and was able to avoid the pickup truck. Brad McKay and his motorcycle came to rest in a ditch off of the westbound lane of LA 70. Isaac McKay Jr. braked and his motorcycle went out of control continuing in the westbound lane sliding and striking the pickup truck. Isaac McKay Jr. received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office. Brad McKay received minor injuries and was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center in Thibodaux, LA. Valois received no injuries in the crash. Both cyclists were wearing the proper DOT approved helmets and Valois was wearing a seat belt. Speed appears to be a factor in the crash. Alcohol and/or drug usage is not suspected, but blood was drawn as per state law and toxicology results are pending from the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office and the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Brad McKay was issued a citation for careless operation. A breath test was given to Valois which indicated no detectable alcohol in the breath test. Troopers are continuing their investigation.
