Fatal Pedestrian Crash Claims The Life of A Belle Rose Youth

Assumption- On May 27, 2011, at approximately 8:16 a.m., Troop C investigated a fatal crash in the 7500 block of LA 1 in Belle Rose, LA. The crash claimed the life of a Ten-year-old Belle Rose youth.

Demi M. Randazzo (W/F, 20 of Donaldsonville, LA) was operating a 1999 Toyota Corolla northbound on LA 1 in Belle Rose, LA. A pedestrian, Andrew Frey Jr. (W/M, 10 of Belle Rose, LA.) crossed from the southbound shoulder into the path of Randazzo’s vehicle. Randazzo attempted to take evasive action, but was unable to avoid the crash.

Randazzo received no injuries in the crash. Frey was transported to Prevost Hospital in Donaldsonville, LA and was pronounced dead from his injuries received in the crash. Randazzo was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. A breath test was given to Randazzo, which indicated no detectable alcohol in the breath result.

No charges filed and Troopers are continuing their investigation.

Remember: Many distractions can take our attention away from performing something in a safe manner. Thirty-three percent of pedestrian crashes occur from dashing into the roadway and seventeen percent occur from dart-outs. Pedestrians must take extra precaution when crossing other than a crosswalk or intersection.
