Fatal Crash Claims The Life Of An Assumption Man

Assumption Parish – On Monday, December 12, 2011, at approximately 06:00 p.m., the Louisiana State Police - Troop C investigated a fatality crash on LA 398 just east of LA 662. The crash claimed the life of an elderly Assumption man.

According to the investigating Troopers, a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling on LA 662 approaching LA 398. The Chevrolet Silverado was being driven by Perry Comeaux (W/M, 56, of Labadieville, LA). The Chevrolet Silverado made an eastbound turn onto LA 398. At the same time that the Chevrolet Silverado was making its turn a pedestrian riding a bicycle was attempting to cross LA 398. The bicycle was being ridden by Robert H. Fox (W/M, 76, of Bayou L’ourse, LA). Mr. Fox was struck by the Chevrolet Silverado just after it made its turn onto LA 398. Mr. Fox was ejected from the bicycle and sustained critical injuries due to the crash. He was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center where he died shortly after arrival.

Investigating Troopers report that alcohol may be a factor in the crash. Mr. Comeaux was cleared of any alcoholic involvement, but toxicology results on Mr. Fox are pending from the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office. This crash remains under investigation.

Bicyclists should always be aware of their surroundings and make sure to cross intersections and streets when it’s safe to do so. Troopers would like to remind everyone to remain safe on the roads, and not to operate any form of transportation under the influence of alcohol.
