TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: September 1, 2011 Fatal Crash Claims The Life Of A Montegut Man Terrebonne- On Thursday, September 1, 2011, at approximately 8:42 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C investigated a fatal crash in the 700 block of LA 55 in Montegut, LA. Charles Bailey (W/M, 63, of Montegut, LA), was operating a 2001 Ford pickup southbound on LA 55. For unknown reasons, Bailey ran off of the southbound lane and in attempt to regain control, veered to the left and exited the northbound lane striking a ditch and overturned. Bailey received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Bailey was not wearing a seat belt. Alcohol and/or drug usage is unknown. Blood was drawn as per state law and toxicology results are pending from the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Troopers are continuing their investigation. Safety Message: In 2010, 59% of all fatalities in Louisiana involved unrestrained occupants. The Labor Day holiday is one of the most travelled and State Police is reminding motorists to make safety a top priority. Remember, Louisiana state law requires EVERYONE to buckle up.
