TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE

Unrestrained Driver Killed in Early Morning Rollover Crash Houma – Louisiana State Police Troop C investigated a single-vehicle fatal crash on LA 56 in Terrebonne Parish shortly after 3:00 am this morning. The driver, and only occupant, was unrestrained and ejected from the vehicle.
Troopers’ preliminary investigation revealed that Michael Positerry (W/M, age 47) of Houma was driving a 1998 Nissan pickup south on LA 56 when he entered a left-hand curve and ran off the road to the right. The pickup struck a ditch, swerved left partially back onto the roadway, and exited the roadway to the right a second time. After exiting the roadway, the pickup overturned and came to rest on its roof in an empty lot. Positerry, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the pickup. He was transported to Chabert Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.
Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of seat belt use. The safest place to be during a rollover crash is INSIDE the vehicle. The only way to ensure this is to be properly restrained at all times. State law requires that everyone in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, wear a seat belt. Last year, more than half of the fatal crashes that occurred in Louisiana involved someone who was unrestrained. The short amount of time it takes to buckle up can mean the difference between getting home safely and never making it home again.
BUCKLE UP…SEAT BELTS SAVE LIVES!!!
