Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE June 10, 2011 Fatal Crash In Terrebonne Parish Claims The Life Of A Mother and Son Terrebonne – On June 10, 2011, at approximately 5:20 p.m., Troop C investigated a two vehicle crash on LA 311 at the eastbound off ramp of U.S. 90 in Gray, LA. The crash claimed the life of a mother and son from Raceland, LA. Gloria Hughes (B/F, 67 of Raceland, LA) was operating a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt eastbound on the off ramp of U.S. 90 at LA 311. Hughes was attempting to make a left turn onto LA 311 and failed to yield to a southbound 1998 Chevrolet pickup driven by George Veals (B/M, 70 of Houma, LA). Veals was traveling in the inside lane of LA 311 and was unable to avoid the crash. Hughes received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Hughes’s right front passenger, Brian Hughes (B/M, 39 of Raceland, LA), was transported to the Thibodaux Regional Medical Center and later died from injuries received in the crash. Veals received minor injuries and was transported to Terrebonne Medical Center. Seat belts were worn by all occupants. Alcohol and/or drug involvement is not suspected in the crash. Blood results are pending from the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office and the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. No charges have been filed and Troopers are continuing their investigation.
