| TROOP A NEWS RELEASE October 7, 2016 Unrestrained 7 Year Old Dies After Being Ejected in Single Vehicle Crash in Ascension Parish Donaldsonville, LA – Shortly before 6:00 pm on October 7, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash on LA 405 south of LA 1 in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of 7 year old Thaddeus Johnson Jr. of Donaldsonville, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 35 year old Delacy Howard of Donaldsonville, LA was traveling northbound on LA 405 in a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban. For unknown reasons, Howard failed to negotiate a left hand curve and ran off the right side of the roadway. Howard’s vehicle began to overturn, ejecting 7 year old Thaddeus Johnson Jr. Johnson was unrestrained at the time of the crash and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Ascension Parish Coroner’s Office. Howard also had three additional juveniles in her vehicle. Howard and the surviving occupants of her vehicle were transported to area hospitals with injuries ranging from moderate to severe. It is unknown if impairment is a factor in this crash but a toxicology sample will be taken from Howard for analysis. Charges are pending. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
