Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: March 9, 2011 Fatal Crash Claims The Life Of A Lockport Woman Lafourche- On Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at approximately 3:50 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C investigated a fatal crash on LA 1 north of Lafourche Crossing in Thibodaux, LA. Fredrick Deboue (B/M, 34 of Belle Rose, LA), was operating a 2001 Chevrolet Lumina southbound on LA 1 and for unknown reasons, Deboue crossed the centerline and struck a northbound 2007 Ford Focus head-on being driven by Robin Matherne (W/F, 44 of Lockport, LA). Matherne attempted to brake and steer to the right, but was unable to avoid the crash. Deboue received moderate injuries and was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance. Matherne received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Matherne’s right front passenger, Sarah Matherne (W/F, 18 of Lockport, LA) and right rear passenger, Hannah Matherne (W/F, 20 of Lockport, LA) both received moderate injuries and were transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance. Seat belts were not used by Deboue, but were worn by all occupants in the Matherne vehicle. Prior to this crash, Deboue was involved in a hit and run crash on LA 1 near the Brandywine Subdivision in Thibodaux, LA. Deboue was southbound and struck the rear of a 2002 Ford pickup driven by Michael L. Leblanc (W/M, 67 of Thibodaux, LA). Leblanc and his passenger, Judith C. Leblanc (W/F, 66 of Thibodaux, LA) were wearing seat belts and were not injured in the crash. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Blood was drawn as per state law and toxicology results are pending from the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab and the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Deboue has been charged with DWI, Vehicular Homicide, Vehicular Negligent Injuring, No Drivers License, No Seat Belt, and Improper Lane Usage and will be booked at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center upon his release from the hospital. Troopers are continuing their investigation.
