TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE April 22, 2015 Baton Rouge Resident Succumbs to Injuries Following Single Vehicle Crash Baton Rouge, LA – Following a single vehicle serious injury crash on the evening of April 16, 2015, Troopers were notified yesterday evening that the driver was pronounced dead as a result of her injuries. The crash occurred at approximately 11:40 pm on LA 327/Gardere Lane at GSRI Avenue in East Baton Rouge Parish and ultimately claimed the life of 24 year old Jonquelle Henry of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Through on scene evidence, Troopers were able to determine that Henry was northbound on LA 327 approaching the intersection of GSRI Avenue. For reasons still under investigation, Henry lost control of her vehicle and struck a metal pole. Henry was unrestrained at the time of the crash. She was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in critical condition where she later succumbed to her injuries. Henry’s vehicle was occupied by a 3 year old female passenger who was also unrestrained. The juvenile was also transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, where she was treated for minor injuries. Troopers do not suspect alcohol or drugs as contributing factors in this crash. Troopers did conclude that Henry’s vehicle was improperly equipped with smooth /worn tires with no tread. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Child passengers are always required to be properly restrained in a weight and size appropriate safety seat. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. With wet driving conditions prevalent in Louisiana, Troopers encourage motorists to take the time to inspect their tires. Smooth or worn tires are a contributing factor in a majority of wet weather crashes.
