Edmonson, Superintendent News Release October 3, 2010 Grand Isle Man Dies in Crash Jefferson- On October 3, 2010, at approximately 4:32 a.m., Troop C investigated a fatal crash on LA 1 south of the Grand Isle Fire Station in Grand Isle, LA. The crash claimed the life of a 37-year-old Grand Isle man. Jamar Sanders (B/M, 34 of Reserve, LA.) was operating a 2009 Kia Spectra southbound on LA 1 south of the Grand Isle Fire Station in Grand Isle, LA. A pedestrian, Myles Brewer (W/M, 37 of Grand Isle, LA.) was walking in the roadway of the southbound lane in the path of Sanders’ vehicle. When Sanders observed the pedestrian, he was unable to avoid impact due to looking down at his cell phone. Brewer received fatal injuries from the crash and pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office. Alcohol and Drug use is unknown on Brewer pending blood results from the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office. Sanders, was wearing a seat belt, and received no injuries in the crash. A breath test administered to Sanders indicated no alcohol involvement. Sanders, was issued a citation for Careless Operation of a motor vehicle. Troopers are continuing their investigation.
