Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: October 15, 2010 Fatal Crash in Terrebonne Parish Claims the Life of Two Females from Houma, LA. Terrebonne – On Friday, October 15, 2010, at approximately 1:25 p.m. Troop C investigated a three vehicle crash on Industrial Blvd., west of Chabert Medical Center in Terrebonne Parish. The crash claimed the life of two females from Houma, LA. Ronnie Rios (O/M, 26 of Houma, LA) was operating a 2002 Chevrolet pickup westbound on Industrial Blvd. in Houma, LA. For unknown reasons, Rios’s vehicle crossed the centerline into the eastbound lane striking a 2004 Ford pickup driven by Patrick Voisin (W/M, 62 of Houma, LA.) on the driver’s side. Rios’s vehicle continued westbound in the eastbound lane striking a 2003 Honda Civic driven by Samantha Marcel (I/F, 44 of Chauvin, LA.) head on. Rios, who was wearing a seat belt, received minor injuries. Voisin, who was wearing a seat belt, received minor injuries. Right-front seat passenger in the Marcel vehicle, Lalisa Robinson (B/F, 35 of Houma, LA.) who was not wearing a seat belt received fatal injuries. Left-rear passenger in the Marcel vehicle Sandra Brunet (W/F, 44 of Chauvin, LA.) who was not wearing a seat belt received critical injuries, and right-rear seat passenger Kara James (B/F, 47 of Houma, LA.) who was not wearing a seat belt received critical injuries. Rios, Brunet, and James were transported to area hospitals by Acadian Ambulance. Voisin was transported to a local medical clinic (Occupational Medicine Services) by his company’s representative. Marcel and Robinson were pronounced dead at the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. The involvement of alcohol and/or drugs usage is suspected in the crash. Blood results are pending at this time from the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office and Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. The following charges have been filed in the crash: Vehicular homicide (2 counts), First degree vehicular negligent injury (3 counts), Vehicular negligent injury (1 count), Driving left of center, and Driving under suspension. Rios was booked at the Terrebonne Parish Detention Center after being release from the hospital. Troopers are continuing their investigation. Louisiana state law requires everyone in a vehicle to wear seat belts. Please remember to Buckle Up and don’t drive under the influence of Alcohol and / or Drugs.
