Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: October 15, 2010 Fatal Crash In Lafourche Parish Claims The Life Of A Baton Rouge Man Lafourche – On Friday, October 15, 2010, at 3:55 a.m., a single vehicle crash on LA 1 north of LA 3090 near Fourchon, LA., claimed the life of a twenty-three-year-old male from Baton Rouge, LA. Legarick Taylor (B/M, 22 of Baton Rouge, LA.) was operating a 2001 Ford pickup southbound on LA 1. For unknown reasons, Taylor failed to negotiate a left bank curve and the vehicle ran off the roadway to the right. Taylor’s vehicle struck a support for a utility pole and continued off of the roadway becoming partially submerged in the marsh. Taylor, who was wearing a seat belt, received minor injuries. Right-front seat passenger in Taylor’s vehicle, Christopher Payne (B/M, 21 of Baton Rouge, LA.) who was not wearing a seat belt received minor injuries, and right-rear seat passenger Kendrick Johnson (B/M, 23 of Baton Rouge, LA.) who was not wearing a seat belt received fatal injuries. Taylor and Payne refused aid, and Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Alcohol usage is a factor in the crash. A breath test was administered to Taylor with a positive result for alcohol involvement. The following charges were filed: Vehicular homicide (1 count) and Improper lane usage. Taylor was booked at the Lafourche Parish Jail. Troopers are continuing their investigation. Louisana state law requires everyone in a vehicle to wear seat belts.
