TROOP A NEWS RELEASE July 5, 2015 Motorcyclist Dies in Single Vehicle Crash in Ascension Parish Donaldsonville, LA – Shortly after 10:00 pm on July 4, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash that occurred on LA 70 east of LA 3089 in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of 38 year old Ron Clark of Baton Rouge, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Clark was driving a 2007 Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle eastbound in the right lane of LA 70. For unknown reasons, Clark’s motorcycle began to drift across the left lane of LA 70 and ran off the roadway. Clark struck a highway sign and was ejected from his motorcycle. Despite the fact that Clark was wearing a DOT approved safety helmet, he suffered serious injuries in the crash. Clark was transported to Prevost Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. It is unknown at this time if impairment is a factor in this crash. A toxicology test will be performed by the Ascension Parish Coroner’s Office. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorcyclists that Louisiana law requires that a DOT approved helmet must be worn while operating a motorcycle on Louisiana highways. Troopers also encourage all riders to take an approved motorcycle safety course. These courses teach safe riding practices and help you apply safe riding strategies that can help reduce your chance of injury should a crash occur. Making good choices while riding a motorcycle, such as never driving while impaired, can often mean the difference between life and death.
