Crash in Lafourche Parish Leaves a 69-year-old Raceland Man in Critical Condition

Lockport – On October 18, 2010 at approximately 11:00 a.m., Troop C investigated a two vehicle crash on LA 308 in Lafourche Parish. The crash left a 69-year-old Raceland man in critical condition.

Todd McNeil (B/M, 41 of New Orleans, LA) was operating a 2007 Sterling dump truck southbound on LA 308 in Lockport, LA. McNeil was inattentive and did not observe that traffic had come to a stop. McNeil attempted to avoid a rear end crash and crossed the centerline into the northbound lane striking a 1993 International 18-wheeler. The 18-wheeler was driven by James Johnson (B/M, 69 of Raceland, LA). Johnson attempted to take evasive action to the right to avoid the collision, but contact was still made. McNeil and Johnson’s vehicle’s came to rest off of the northbound lane of LA 308.

McNeil, who was wearing a seat belt, received minor injuries and was then transported to Ochsner St. Anne by Acadian Ambulance. It is unknown if Johnson was wearing a seat belt. Johnson received critical injuries and was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance.

Alcohol and/or drug usage is not suspected in the crash; however, as per state law, blood samples were taken from both drivers and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Troopers are continuing their investigation.
