Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE Fatal Crash In Lafourche Parish Claims The Life Of A Raceland Woman Raceland – On December 3, 2010, at approximately 8:37 a.m., Troop C investigated a four vehicle crash on LA 308 near Robichaux Lumber Co. in Lafourche Parish. The crash claimed the life of an eighty-year old Raceland woman. Geneva C. Toups (W/F, 80 of Raceland, LA) was operating a 2000 Chevrolet Impala southbound on LA 308. For unknown reasons, Toups failed to yield while making a left turn into a private driveway and was struck by a northbound 2006 Kenworth truck driven by Chad Connor (W/M, 33 of Houma, LA.). After impact, Toup’s vehicle rotated and struck a southbound 2006 Pontiac G 6 driven by Jaclyn M. Haydel (W/F, 24 of Raceland, LA.). Paul A. Wolfe (W/M, 50 of Mount Vernon, Washington) was operating a 2001 Ford Escape northbound and attempted to take evasive action to avoid the crash and struck a mailbox off of the northbound lane. All drivers except for Toups were properly restrained. Toups received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Connor, Haydel, and Wolfe received no injuries. Connor, Haydel, and Wolfe were administered a breath test which indicated no detectable alcohol found on their part in the crash. Alcohol and/or drug involvement is not suspected in the crash. Toxicology results are pending from the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. No charges filed in the crash and Troopers continue their investigation. REMEMBER!!! State law requires everyone to be properly restrained in a vehicle. Please buckle up Louisiana!!!!
