Bail Bondsmen Arrested For Extortion, Theft, Kidnapping

St. Mary: On December 2-3, 2010, LSP Region I Criminal Investigative Division, Houma office arrested Chad Bonvillian (W/M, 38 of Houma, LA.) and Bobby Jackson (W/M, 46 of New Iberia, LA.). Both are charged with Extortion, Felony Theft, and Second degree kidnapping.

LSP Region I Criminal Investigative Division executed an arrest warrant for Bonvillian and Jackson of Bobby Jackson Bail Bonds, following an investigation that began in August of 2010. The investigation begun after receiving information from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office alleging, that Bonvillian and Jackson had extorted money from a victim and his and/or her family.

The investigation revealed that the victim had been arrested for crimes in 2009, with a bond being set. After posting bond through Bobby Jackson Bail Bonds, the victim failed to appear in court which resulted in a warrant being issued for his and/or her arrest. Bonvillian and Jackson met with the victim to collect additional money in lieu of being brought to jail. Being the victim did not possess the money sought by Bonvillian and Jackson, the victim was taken to a family member’s residence, where the victim was handcuffed and un-handcuffed several times while the money was being sought. Ultimately, a verbal agreement was reached where a partial payment was rendered with the remaining being due the next day. Following the event, the victim turned himself and/or herself in to the St. Mary Sheriff’s Office for the outstanding warrant. The facts and circumstances of the case were presented to the 16th Judicial District Court and warrants were issued for Bonvillian and Jackson.

Bonvillian and Jackson were arrested and booked on the above listed charges. Bond was set as follows: Bonvillian $50,000.00 and Jackson $10,100.00.
