Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release January 20, 2011 Fatal Crash Claims The Life Of A Thibodaux Man Lafourche- On Thursday, January 20, 2011, at approximately 9:21 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C investigated a fatal crash on LA 1, 4.7 miles north of LA 182 in Lafourche Parish. James Dantin (W/M, 51 of Raceland, LA) was operating a 2009 Nissan Maxima southbound on LA 1 at a high rate of speed and ran into the rear of a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Kristofor Toups (W/M, 28 of Thibodaux, LA). After the initial impact, Toups’ vehicle crossed the center line and struck a northbound 2006 Peterbilt garbage truck driven by Eric Smith (B/M, 44 of Thibodaux, LA). Smith attempted to take evasive action by driving onto northbound shoulder, but was unable to avoid being struck by Toups’ vehicle. Dantin received moderate injuries, and Smith received minor injuries and they were transported to Thibodaux Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance. Toups received fatal injuries and pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Dantin was not wearing his seat belt. Toups and Smith were wearing their seat belts. Alcohol and/or drug usage is unknown, blood was drawn as per state law and toxicology results are pending. Charges are pending and Troopers are continuing their investigation. Louisiana law requires ALL occupants in the vehicle to be properly restrained. Please remember to buckle up!!! Contact Information: | |||
