Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: January 27, 2011 Crash Claims The Life Of A Houma Woman Terrebonne- On Thursday, January 27, 2011, at approximately 9:22 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C investigated a three vehicle crash on LA 3040 at its intersection with Corporate Drive in Terrebonne Parish. Cody Pinell (W/M, 17 of Houma, LA) was operating a 2000 Chevrolet pickup southbound on LA 3040 in the inside lane. Due to driver violation, Pinell disregarded a red light and struck a 2002 Nissan Sentra driven by Octaviana Ortega-Rosas (H/F, 67 of Houma, LA). Ortega-Rosas had a green light, and was attempting to make a left turn onto LA 3040 from Corporate Drive. After the initial impact, Ortega-Rosas’s vehicle was pushed into a 2007 Honda Accord driven by Lacy Poiencot (W/F, 30 of Houma, LA). Poiencot was stopped for a red light northbound on LA 3040 in the left turn lane. Ortega-Rosas was transported to Terrebonne General Medical Center and later died from injuries received in the crash. Pinell and Poiencot were not injured in the crash. All drivers were properly restrained. Alcohol and drug usage is not suspected. Blood was drawn on Ortega-Rosas and toxicology results are pending from the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. A breath test was given to Pinell and Poiencot which indicated no detectable alcohol in the breath result. Charges are pending and troopers are continuing their investigation.
