Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE January 18, 2011 Fatal Crash In Assumption Parish Claimed The Lives Of Two Teens Assumption – On Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at approximately 6:13 p.m., Troop C investigated a fatal vehicle crash on LA 308 north of LA 402 in Assumption Parish. The crash claimed the life of a nineteen year-old Thibodaux man and an eighteen year-old Belle Rose woman Trae Bias (B/M, 19 of Thibodaux, LA) was operating a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville southbound on LA 308. Bias failed to yield while making a left turn, and turned into the path of a 2009 Mini Cooper, driven by Brett Levert (W/M, 44 of Prairieville, LA) who was northbound on LA 308. After the intial impact, a 1995 Ford Mustang, driven by Calvin Breaux (B/M, 48 of Belle Rose) also northbound on LA 308, struck the rear of Levert’s vehicle. Breaux's vehicle continued off of the northbound lane coming to rest in a drainage ditch. Bias and his right-front passenger, Dennetta Fripp (B/F, 18 of Belle Rose, LA) received fatal injuries in the crash. Levert received serious injuries and was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Baton Rouge. Breaux received minor injuries and refused medical attention. Bias and Fripp were not properly restrained. Levert and Breaux were properly restrained. Blood was drawn from Bias and Levert, and Breaux was administered a breath test which indicated no detectable alcohol found on his part in the crash. Alcohol and/or drug involvement is not suspected in the crash. Toxicology results are pending from the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office and the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. No charges filed in the crash and Troopers continue their investigation. Louisiana state law requires everyone in a vehicle to wear seat belts. Please Remember to Buckle Up!!!
