Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: December 21, 2010 Fatal Crash In Lafourche Parish Claims The Life Of A Texas Man Lafourche – On Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at 3:05 a.m., a single vehicle crash on LA 308 south of Cloverly Rd. in Cut Off, LA., claimed the life of a thirty-one year old male from San Juan, Hidalgo, TX. Candice A. McWilliams (W/M, 26 of Galliano, LA) was operating a 2001 Ford pickup northbound on LA 308. For unknown reasons, McWilliams failed to negotiate a left bank curve and the vehicle ran off the roadway to the right. McWilliams’s vehicle flipped several times ejecting right-front seat passenger, Jose Antonio Orozco (W/M, 31 of San Juan, Hidalgo, TX). McWilliams and Orozco were transported to Lady of the Sea Hospital by Lafourche Ambulance Service. McWilliams received moderate injuries and was later transferred to University Hospital in New Orleans, LA. Orozco died at Lady of the Sea Hospital as a result of his injuries received in the crash. Seat belts were not used by occupants. Alcohol usage is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Blood was drawn and Toxicology results are pending from the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Troopers are continuing their investigation. Louisana state law requires everyone in a vehicle to wear seat belts.
