TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE July 12, 2015 Motorcyclist Dies in East Feliciana Parish Crash Jackson, LA – At approximately 8:30 am on July 12, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a motorcycle crash that occurred on LA 952 north of LA 10 at Miller Rd. in East Feliciana Parish. The crash took the life of 55 year old John Guate of St. Bernard, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Guate was driving a 2003 Honda motorcycle northbound on LA 952. Guate failed to safely negotiate a curve to the left and ran off the right side of the road. Guate’s motorcycle struck a guardrail and he was ejected. Despite the fact that Guate was wearing a US DOT approved safety helmet, he suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Guate was pronounced deceased at the scene by the East Feliciana Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash. A toxicology sample will be taken from Guate and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorcyclists that Louisiana law requires that a DOT approved helmet must be worn while operating a motorcycle on Louisiana highways. Troopers also encourage all riders to take an approved motorcycle safety course. These courses teach safe riding practices and help you apply safe riding strategies that can help reduce your chance of injury should a crash occur. Making good choices while riding a motorcycle, such as never driving while impaired, can often mean the difference between life or death.
