Motorcyclist Dies After Striking A Pole On LA 660

Houma, LA- Shortly after 4 PM this afternoon, a 33 year old Houma man was killed after failing to negotiate a curve in the roadway on LA 660.

The investigation revealed that a 2002 Honda CVR 600 motorcycle was traveling southbound on LA 660 just north of LA 3087 in Houma, LA. The motorcycle was being driven by Robb Martinez, (W/M age 33) of Houma, LA. As the motorcycle was traveling south, it failed to negotiate a left curve in the roadway. The motorcycle continued straight and traveled off the road. Martinez entered a grassy area where the motorcycle fell to the ground, ejecting Martinez from the motorcycle. After being ejected, Martinez slid toward and struck a utility pole. He came to rest a short distance after the pole. Martinez, who was wearing a US D.O.T. helmet, was transported to Terrebonne General Hospital where he later died from his injuries sustained in the crash.

Investigating Troopers report that speed and lack of riding knowledge may have been factors in the crash. Alcohol impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Routine toxicology tests are pending. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind motorists that driving at high speeds is dangerous, and often leads to serious injuries or death in motor vehicle crashes. Motorcyclists must wear a proper US D.O.T. helmet when operating their motorcycle on Louisiana roadways. Although not all crashes are survivable, properly utilizing safety equipment like approved motorcycle helmets and seatbelts decrease your risk of serious injury or death.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
