Pedestrian Killed Last Night In Terrebonne Parish

Gray, LA- Shortly before 9 PM yesterday evening, a pedestrian was killed after he was struck by a car on LA 24 North.

The investigation revealed that a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica was traveling north on LA 24 North in the left lane near the Pitt Bridge. The Chrysler was being driven by India Walker (B/F age 25) of Schriever, LA. As Walker approached the Pitt Bridge she noticed a person lying in the roadway directly ahead of her. Walker steered to the right in an attempt to avoid striking the pedestrian, but wasn’t able to avoid the pedestrian in time. The pedestrian was later identified as William Winslow (B/M age 43) of Gray, LA. Winslow was pronounced dead on the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Walker, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured in the crash.

Alcohol use is unknown at this time and routine toxicology tests are pending for Winslow. Walker submitted to a breath test and was cleared of any alcohol involvement. This crash remains under investigation.

Pedestrians should always be aware of their surroundings and make sure to cross intersections and streets when it’s safe to do so. Remember to wear bright and reflective clothing when walking or bicycling at night. Bicycles must also have a lamp mounted on the front that shall emit a white light visible from a distance of at least five hundred feet to the front. They shall also have a lamp mounted on the rear that will emit either a flashing or steady red light visible from a distance of five hundred feet to the rear. Troopers remind everyone to remain safe on the roads, and not to operate any form of transportation under the influence of alcohol. While there have been fewer deaths associated with impaired driving in recent years, there is still much room for improvement.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
