Houma Man Dies After Being Ejected From Vehicle

Schriever, LA- Shortly after 10:30 PM yesterday, a Houma man was killed when he was ejected after a single vehicle crash in Schriever, LA.

The investigation revealed that a 2002 Ford F-150 was traveling south on LA 24 South by the Lost Bridge in Schriever, LA. The F-150 was being driven by Diron Williams (B/M age 38) of Houma, LA. The F-150 failed to negotiate a slight right hand curve in the road causing the vehicle to drift onto the left shoulder. Williams attempted to correct the vehicles path but oversteered causing the vehicle to rotate clockwise across both lanes of LA 24 South and travel off the right side of the roadway. The F-150 entered a roadside ditch and struck a tree and driveway causing the vehicle to overturn several times. Williams, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. A passenger in the vehicle, who was wearing a seat belt, received minor injuries in the crash.

Alcohol use is suspected to be factor in the crash. Routine toxicology tests are pending for Williams. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind motorists of the dangers of impaired driving. While there have been fewer deaths associated with impaired driving in recent years, there is still much room for improvement. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
